That is the official mission of Diaspora, the social network for the people, by the people. It’s been on my radar for quite a while, but they are still in alpha, on an invite-only base and there are very little invitations. Today, I got mine :) or should I say bought mine because I donated to the project because I would really like to see it succeed. If you don’t know what Diaspora is here is the Wikipedia entry.
